MAKING SENSE OF SPEECH –MIND-BODY MEDICINE

THE CURE WITHIN

MAKING SENSE OF SPEECH –MIND-BODY MEDICINE

Adapted from: The Cure Within by Anne Harrington ISBN 978-0-393-06563-3

  1. One need not choose a camp of Holistic/Behavioral medicine versus Reductionist medicine as both now coexist and complement each other.
  2. Speech-Mind-Body paradigm offers a diverse set of cultural resources to make sense of experiences with links to religious understandings and practices.
  3. To humble oneself before the superior wisdom of some OTHER translates into longer life, better immune functioning, and more flexibly functioning brains.
  4. The Speech- mind-body paradigm has the extraordinary ability to flourish simultaneously at different levels of culture both as mainstream and popular body of knowledge and practice.

SPEECH-MIND-BODY CURE

PRACTICE OF EQUANIMITY

EAST AND WEST MEET

There are only three instrumentalities for doing, getting done and approving action. The cure of these three means lies within. The problem of body leads to VYADHI, that of mind to ADHI and the rise of passion to UPADHI.

Western mind-body history has leaned on Scientific methods. The eastern philosophical approach is empirical and inclusive of speech. There is emphasis on practice with faith distinct from superstition. The experiential wisdom of the east and the experimental rigors of the west may lead to credible strategy in dealing with the ailments of humanity.

Opportunity favors the prepared. This may be internal or stimulated by the family, friend, philosopher or guide. The syllabus has to be drawn backwards. If we start with the beginning we may perhaps only be chasing the modern and get exhausted of the resources at our disposal. We are then broken by the modern life and miss the fruits of the modernity. The practice and the theory have to be complimentary.

LEARN is an acronym proposed:

L=LOVE

E=EXERCISE

A=ACQUIRING HABITS

R=RELAXATION

N=NUTRITION

Hostility and Cynicism is the bane of modernity. Understanding with scientific rigors is the boon.
